Which Scenic Flight Is Right For You?
Choosing the right scenic flight over Acadia is easier than you think. Here’s how to find yours in about two minutes.
Every Group Is Different. So Is Every Flight.
The team at Scenic Flights of Acadia helps people choose their flight every day. The questions we hear most often are “how do I know which one is right for us?” and “what would you recommend?” This guide gives you the same answers we’d give you in person.
I’ve Never Flown in a Small Plane Before
Start with the Schoodic Point flight. At 25 minutes and $129 per person it’s the shortest and most accessible option we offer. You’ll still see a spectacular stretch of the Maine coast including Bar Harbor, Sand Beach, Egg Rock Lighthouse, and Schoodic Point itself. It’s enough to know whether you love it, and most people who take this flight wish they’d booked longer.
I Want to See All of Acadia in One Flight
The All Acadia flight is our most popular for a reason. In 35 minutes you’ll see the entire perimeter of Mount Desert Island, Cadillac Mountain, three historic lighthouses, and every major harbor on the island. If you only do one flight, this is the one most people choose.
I’m Traveling With Kids
Any of our flights work well with children and kids ages 3 to 11 fly for half price on every flight. Families with younger children tend to do best on the Schoodic Point or All Acadia flights where the shorter duration keeps everyone engaged from takeoff to landing. We fly three planes, two Cessna 172s that carry up to 3 passengers and a Cessna 206 that carries up to 5. Have a larger family? Call us and we’ll arrange multiple planes so everyone flies together.
I’m a Lighthouse Enthusiast
You have two great options depending on how far you want to go. The Deluxe Lighthouse flight covers seven lighthouses in 50 minutes and takes you offshore to Baker Island and the Cranberry Islands. If you want the full Maine coast lighthouse experience, the Historic Penobscot Bay Lighthouse Tour goes all the way to 12 lighthouses, Fort Knox, and the Penobscot Narrows Bridge in 75 minutes. That one requires a minimum of two passengers.
I’m Here for the Fall Foliage
September and October bring two flights built specifically for leaf peepers. The Fall Foliage flight takes you inland to where the color is most concentrated — mountains, lakes, and fields in peak red, orange, and gold. The Deluxe Fall Foliage flight adds the full Acadia coastline so you get both the ocean and the inland color in one 50 minute flight. Peak foliage is a narrow window. Book early in your visit so you have flexibility if the weather shifts.
I’m Planning Something Special
Proposals, weddings, anniversaries, corporate groups. We’ve done all of it and we love doing it. Five or six proposals happen in the air over Acadia every season. We’ve hosted corporate groups of up to 30 people across multiple planes. If you have something specific in mind, reach out and we’ll build the right experience around it.
